"Since first encountering this wine out of double magnum at the chateau (pure infanticide) this Cos d’Estournel has built on its promise and is rapidly becoming one of my favourite wines of the vintage. A deep garnet hue with thin deep brick rim. The nose is quintessential Saint Estephe, quite earthy at first with element of sous bois, then tar, a touch of black plum and liquorish, a hint of black tea. The full-bodied palate is becoming less sinewy and more approachable every time I encounter it: beautiful balance, superb definition, this bottle perhaps the most supple and lithe so far. Slightly grainy tannins, a touch of bitter chocolate and black truffle. Great length. This remains a tour de force Cos d’Estournel. Majestic and imperious." (06/2007)
